The 2008 Edition of The Guide for LDS in Southern Nevada is now being distributed to newsstands around the Las Vegas Valley. Distribution began in June after a delay to include the new Eldorado Stake of Henderson, organized at the last of April
The entire publication is in full-color. The stakes section has been expanded so that each stake has two pages for more legible maps and listing information.
The free annual LDS directory--listing maps, stake and ward leaders, and other information of interest to LDS in the Southern Nevada area--is distributed FREE throughout the Las Vegas valley.
Over 20,000 copies of the long-awaited 2008 edition of The Guide will be circulated at the various LDS bookstores and LDS credit unions, and other LDS outlets throughout the valley.
The publication, with a traditional full-color photo of the Las Vegas Temple on the cover, is the 16th edition of this directory, which has been very popular with leaders and active members of the Church.
Included in the fully indexed Guide will be over two dozen maps showing regional, stake and ward boundaries. A color-coded centerfold map, giving a detailed overview of the Las Vegas Valley, shows the location of stake centers, buildings, and LDS points of interest.
All maps included in the publication are downloadable from lasvegasldsguide.com, made available for LDS to use for non-commercial use.
Contents include information on LDS education, LDS broadcasts, LDS-oriented publications, LDS credit unions, Las Vegas Nevada Mission, family entertainment, Church headquarters, General Authorities, area and regional leaders, and the Las Vegas and St. George temples (including schedules).
PDF versions of these pages are also downloadable.
Information found within the publication includes ward meeting times, stake conference dates, Church agencies, building foyer phone numbers, stake auxiliary presidents and other stake leaders.
The directory is supported by a number of sponsors
and given away at no charge to its readers. Local church leader interested
in quantities of the directories for their units can call 438-7776 for
free delivery.

A Who's Who and a What's What of the LDS community in Southern Nevada. First produced in 1986 as a Latter-day Sentinel publication, The Guide for LDS in Southern Nevada has been published since 1989 by the former Managing Editor and Assistant Editor of the Southern Nevada edition of the Latter-day Sentinel newspaper. The 2008 edition is the 16th.
A full-color cover of 50# offset, trimmed to 8-1/8 x 10-3/8 inches. Fully indexed to easily cross-reference the thousands of facts and items of information about anything and everything Mormons want and need to know about the Church in the Las Vegas and Moapa valleys.
Corrections and additions will be updated regular on this site.
The 2008 edition of The Guide is a directory / almanac of 108 pages of vital LDS information as shown in its table of contents.
Any improvements to the editorial content of The 2008 Guideare
based on suggestions from LDS leaders and Church members who use the
directory.
The publishers of The Guide for LDS in Southern Nevada are a husband-wife team who produce the publication with what they as Church leaders would like to have access to.
Ed and Ranae met on the Banyan yearbook staff at BYU, where each had an opportunity to serve as its Editor (1978-1979 and 1975-1980).
Upon graduating in 1980 (Public Relations and Magazine Journalism respectively) both were involved in producing a weekly newspaper in Millard County Utah for four years before moving to Hawaii where Ed worked for BYU-HC as an assistant director of University Relations and director of the Publications Office; Ranae resurrected the university's yearbook and served as its editor.
After coming to Las Vegas in 1987 (Ed returning to where he serve his mission and Ranae to her "hometown") both became involved with the Latter Day Sentinel newspaper chain, managing the Nevada operations. Ed's favorite experience was producing the content for two special issues that covered the LDS Scout Encampment at what was to become the Spencer W. Kimball Scout Reservation (Camp Potosi).
Currently Ed serves in the Desert Sage Ward bishopric and Ranae as the ward's Relief Society President.
Both have been very involved in the Church, publishing and public relations for the Church.
Their publishing philosophy stems from the belief that content is most important in the publishing process and that it takes more than a computer, some software and access to a printing press to create a viable publication.
We work to make the LDS Guide useful to the membership and leadership of the Church, while protecting as best as possible information that should not be made public.
Edward and Ranae Kanet
